Whiteboard Designs

Physical Controller
Title/Roles
On Stump'd I was a designer and sole programmer.
Tools
Stump'd was created in Unity, the controller was made with a makey-makey and physical materials. Designs were created physically on whiteboards and paper.
Description
Stump'd is a reactions based arcade style game with a unique controller made specifically for it. Stump'd has the player chop and trash their way to new high scores. Stump'd was started as a 1 week sprint and eventualy turned a full project once it got accepted into the 2023 Alt.Crtl GDC showcase. Stump'd was created with a team of 4 other members and was a group effort. Stump'd was unique for it's controller and the design challenges that arose out of it. This project showcases adaptability to different controller types, knowledge and mastery of design practices and insight further into the "why" of our designs.
Take Aways
This project was great experience for a team effort, working together as a team became very important throughout this project. This project was very insightful, when designing for this unique controller, it made me as a designer have to think about things I never had to before. Such as how to include more actions into our controller while keeping it in context of our game. This was where the pedal came from. The actions needed to have it's form follow function, make sense in the context of our game and not be physically straining as to be still enjoyable. The pedal arose from this and we turned our stump into something like a trash can lid, it fits into the goofy style of the game but also was really important for adding depth to the project. See the interview linked above for more info on this!
