Title/Roles

This unofficially named Umbrella project is a solo project turned school project. Everything in this game including designs, level, music, audio was developed by me.

The game was created with Unity, level design document created in word, mockups and diagrams created with Adobe Illustrator.

Description

This project demonstrates careful and innovative level design, created to induce a flow state. The level design in this level takes extra care to teach and test every mechanic, mix up the mechanic orders to keep it fresh and keep the player challenged. It builds up difficulty overtime and while the final challenges are difficult the player has been given the tools to deal with them. This project also has a sound track and sound effects created in FL studio, the sounds and music were made to fit the art style and feeling of the game's atmosphere.

Take Aways

This project was an insightful experience, designing a level around an original mechanic specific to this project helped me understand how to bring out a game's mechanics with the level design. The mechanics are only as good as their applications and this project has shown me how to make sure the mechanics live up to their potential by properly pacing them, teaching and testing them, teaching with a "do don't tell" technique and using mechanics in new creative ways.
